PORTLAND- Nearly three weeks after the release of the last Chris Dudley advertisement attacking John Kitzhaber’s record as governor, the Kitzhaber campaign released their own ad on Thursday bringing into question Dudley’s experience for the job.

Concerns arise over citizen initiative review process

SALEM- Some in the state’s political sphere are concerned by the inability of citizen review organizers to limit review bias.

The Citizen Initiative Review pilot project came about as a result of a piece of 2009 legislation which gave the Secretary of State the ability to “designate organizations to establish citizen panels to review and create statements on a specified number of initiated state measures.”

Internal GOP poll shows Bruun leading Schrader in 5th District

PORTLAND- A new internal poll released by the Scott Bruun campaign appears to show the GOP challenger to be holding a lead over incumbent Democratic Congressman Kurt Schrader of Canby.

The poll, conducted by Moore Information, was performed on behalf of the Bruun campaign. Moore questioned 300 “likely voters” in the district.

Two new groups aim to lessen taxes in Oregon

MEDFORD- The list of political action committees hoping to influence Oregon politics can add two new tax-focused groups to its ranks.

The new political action committees, although officially unrelated, were both created to promote lower taxes and fees.

Disputes over election calls haunt Oregon’s 19th and 20th Senate Districts

PORTLAND- During the past few weeks, complaints and accusations have been flooding in from both political parties on the improper use of phone calls to constituents in Senate Districts 19 and 20.

The two districts, which straddle the Interstate 5 corridor, stretch from Tualatin and Tigard on the west side to Oregon City and West Linn off Interstate 205.

Treasurer’s race by the numbers

PORTLAND- With just under three months until November’s general election, candidates in Oregon’s race for State Treasurer have been working tirelessly to build their campaign war chests.

Republican candidate State Sen. Chris Telfer, R-Bend, has raised just over $23,500 in 2010. One of her more recent contributions has come from the wood producer Interfor, who gave $500 to Telfer’s campaign.

Forbes endorses Huffman in Senate race

PORTLAND- In Portland’s Director Park on Friday morning, media mogul Steve Forbes announced his support for Senatorial candidate Jim Huffman.

Huffman, running as the Republican candidate against incumbent Ron Wyden, welcomed support from Forbes, calling it a “boost to the campaign.”

Bruun questions Schrader on job growth

CLACKAMAS-Shortly following Thursday’s North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce “Eggs ‘n Issues” event, Republican Scott Bruun sent a release criticizing rival candidate Congressman Kurt Schrader, D- Oregon City, on his defense of what Bruun’s campaign called “failed democratic policies.”

During the event, Schrader commented that the federal stimulus legislation he helped to pass has been successful.

Newest Dudley ad: New Ideas

PORTLAND- The newest ad from the Dudley campaign continues with its trend of playing off Kitzhaber’s comment about Oregon being ungovernable.

The thirty second television spot ends with Dudley saying, “Oregon isn’t ungovernable, we just need new ideas.”

Committees set to cultivate arguments supporting ballot measures

SALEM- The Oregon Legislature announced last week the naming of the Joint Legislative Argument Committees on Ballot Measures 70, 71, and 72.

The committees, recently named by Senate President Peter Courtney, D-Salem, and House Speaker Dave Hunt, D-Clackamas, were created for the purposes of drafting arguments in support of the ballot measures proposed by the Legislature.
